Civil Services Examination - Main Examination - Important Information.

The Civil Services Main Examination consists of Two Kinds of Papers: 

1. Ranking Papers: 7 No.s & 2. Non Ranking Papers: 2 No.s [Indian Language & English].

The Ranking Papers are: 

Optional - I: Paper I and Paper II for 600 Marks.

Optional - II: Paper I and Paper II for 600 Marks.

Essay: Paper I for 200 Marks.

General Studies: Paper I and Paper II for 600 Marks.

General Studies Paper: 

Paper - I: It has 4 Segments.  History of Modern India and Indian Culture, Geography of India, Indian Polity and Current National issues and Topics of Social relevance. 

Paper - II: It has 5 Segments.  Topics on India and the World, Indian Economy, International Affairs and Institutions.  Development in the field of Science and Technology, Communication and Space and Statistical Analysis, Graphs and Diagrams.

The Pattern of Preliminary Examination  - General Studies Paper :

Geography - 35 to 40 questions; General Science: 25 to 30 questions;                     Indian History - 12 to 17 questions; Misc. and Current Affairs - 30 to 35 questions;    Indian Polity - 10 to 15 questions; Indian Economy - 10 to 15 questions; and         Mental Ability - 20 to 25 questions.
